JIM ROMAN

CONCERT ORGANIST

Jim Roman serves as Organist and Artist-in-Residence at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas and is on the faculty of the Bridges Academy of Fine Arts, where he maintains a small private studio of organ and piano students. An active member of the musical community, Jim has served in various roles for the Houston Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, the Houston Symphony Chorus, and other arts organizations. Jim is passionate about new music, constantly looking to commission new music for the organ, having commissioned more than a dozen works to date. Active as both a solo and collaborative performer, Jim frequently performs in concert with his wife, soprano Grace Roman, and was most recently featured as guest organist in concert with the Grammy-nominated British vocal ensemble, VOCES8, on a concert program for their Live from London series and on the latest commercial recording of music by Howard Goodall, Unconditional Love & Four Devotional Songs.

 

Jim holds a Certificate in Music Performance from the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music where he was a student of Daryl Robinson. Prior to that, Jim earned his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Organ Performance and Sacred Music from Westminster Choir College (WCC) where he studied with Ken Cowan and Alan Morrison. During his time at WCC he was named a Co-Winner of the 2013 Joan Lippincott Organ Competition for Excellence in Organ Performance. Additionally, Jim has studied privately with Grethe Krogh in Copenhagen, Denmark.
