Concert Organist

David Kevin Lamb, Organist, is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Music where he studied the organ with Oswald Ragatz, Marilyn Keiser, Larry Smith, and Robert Rayfield. Completing the Doctor of Music degree in Organ and Church Music in 2000, other areas of study included Vocal Performance/Pedagogy, Choral Conducting, and Music Education. While on the IU campus, he was an associate instructor in Choral Conducting where, for two years, he was the Assistant Conductor of the Indiana University Singing Hoosiers, under the direction of Professor Robert E. Stoll, and also the Associate Conductor of the IU All-Campus Choruses, under the direction of Dr. Michael V.W. Gordon.

Currently serving as Director of Music for Trinity United Methodist Church in New Albany, IN, Former church music leadership positions include churches in Bloomington, Columbus, Jeffersonville, New Albany, and Seymour in Indiana, and in Louisville, KY.   In 2003 (and again in 2004), he was honored to be selected to perform as the Conference Organist for the South Indiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, and he has presented guest organ recitals in Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Washington, D.C., and in Vancouver, Canada.  Concert engagements in Europe have included presentations in Great Britain, Germany, Austria, and France, playing the historic Cavaille-Coll organs at the historic churches of St. Augustin and La Trinite in Paris and also the recently refurbished VonBeckerath Organ in the American Church in Paris. The most recent addition to the list was a performance in Turin, Italy to be a part of the St. Rita International Organ Festival in October of 2015. 

Additionally, Dr. Lamb is the Organist/Choir Director for Park Christian Church (Disciple of Christ) in New Albany, Indiana, where he is very happy to have the chance to return to his Disciple of Christ roots.

Dr. Lamb is happy to count over twenty years experience as a school music administrator and choral director. Beginning his career as the Choral Director at Charlestown High School and Charlestown Middle School in Charlestown, IN, he then continued in public education as the Director of Choral Music for the Seymour Community Schools, in Seymour, Indiana. Currently, Dr. Lamb is the adjunct instructor of music at Indiana University/Purdue University at Columbus.

A former member of the Louisville Bach Society Chorus and the Kentucky Opera Chorus, Dr. Lamb has produced, conducted, and directed over 50 full-length musical theatre productions and has worked as a pit player for both the Derby Dinner Playhouse and the Broadway in Louisville Tour Series, in the Louisville, Kentucky area. He is a member of the American Federation of Musicians (Louisville Local 11-637). As a voice teacher Dr. Lamb has coached singers in Indiana & Kentucky and served for two seasons as a Master Teacher of Voice for the West Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts at Marshall University.

As a Choral Conductor, David has served as a guest conductor for Mass Choir Festivals, sponsored by both the Indiana Music Educators’ Association, the Indiana Choral Directors’ Association, and American Guild of Organist Chapters. Under Lamb’s direction, the Seymour High School Madrigal Singers completed performance tours to Kentucky, Ohio, New York, West Virginia and in Indiana.

Professional memberships include the American Choral Directors’ Association, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Organ Historical Society, and the Louisville and Southern Indiana Chapters of the American Guild of Organists, where he holds the Service Playing Certificate and the Colleague Certification. In 2018, Dr. Lamb was elected for the third time by the American Guild of Organists, to serve a (3rd) two-year term as the National Councillor for Membership.  In this position he worked to create and support communication incentives within the organization and he created and developed workshop sessions to enhance leadership skills at both the chapter and national levels within the AGO.  He was formerly the Councillor for Region V – the Great Lakes Region, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, & Ohio.  Dr. Lamb’s professional experiences include work in the realms of concert organist, choral director, church organist, singer, voice teacher, accompanist, pit player, music administrator, public school teacher, college instructor, workshop leader, clinician, and recording artist. As a volunteer on the Jacobs School of Music Alumni Board at Indiana University, David Lamb was the founder and the first president of the Indiana Organists United, an alumni affiliate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Alumni Association. He continues to serve on the IOU Alumni Board with the esteemed title of Honorary Founding President.
